  • Calculating Copayments & Deductibles - NOW AVAILABLE

One of the most asked for items from students of Medical Billing Course.com has been an additional excercise in calculating copayments and deductibles.

Kiera Reed, Medical Billing Course Graduate, received a 100% grade on Chapter 2 of the medical billing course, which consists of 5 problems in calculating copayments and deductibles, but was still among many, many students asking for more! "The calculations are fun and understanding them is important and provides confidence," says Kiera.

Medical Billing Course.com released its new "Calculating Copayments and Deductibles" chapter today, thanks to Senior MBC Instructor and author, Lisa Bentler.

You can save $10 for a limited time so be sure to check it out.

"There are way too many people out there posing as "experts" in this field. You would be surprised which companies/associations are flat out lying to the public just for profit. I want to speak to as many people as possible during the month of June, and then in July I will be releasing an article based upon my conversations and my research, at which time I will be exposing companies/associations for what they really are. This is going to make several "organizations" very nervous --- as it should!

Be Careful About Which "Associations" You Associate With

Don't choose a Medical Billing Association just because they are listed at the top of Google or Yahoo! They find their way to the top of these search engines due to content and NOT CREDIBILITY!

There are legitimate associations and there are non-legitimate associations and telling the difference can be extremely difficult if you have not been in this field for a long time.

A legitimate medical billing association will represent your needs legislatively, such as www.hbma.org. A "non-legitimate" association will attempt to sell you your pick of several seemingly "inexpensive software programs", which many medical billing business owners know are not adequate in a medical billing business setting. These "associations" also sometimes sell quasi-courses in medical billing, which oftentimes disappoint the student because the course is actually a "lead in" to buying a software program in which they are a reseller of and gain to make a profit from. If you find an "association" selling these programs, understand you have run across a "reseller" and not an association!

Buyer Beware! We will be covering more on this topic in future issues.

    Norma Tovar & Lara Seaton
    Medagent Outsource Solutions
    Hutto, Texas

We both wanted to start our own home business for years but could never really find the "right one." After researching we came across the ideal business that would utilize each of our individual professional experiences ---- medical billing.

Norma is an RN whose career included work involving insurance companies and medical necessity review. Lara was in higher education management, primarily in records. Their combined backgrounds in the medical and management fields were the perfect mix of skills to form and grow their company, Medagent Outsource Solutions.

Although Norma and Lara's careers provided important knowledge and skills, neither had actual experience in medical billing. Their research brought them to Medical Billing Course.com and they both became students. "We both found the program to be very comprehensive and, as a result, learned a great deal about what we were getting into," says Lara, "We often refer back to course materials as a wonderful resource."

Norma also completed the "Understanding HIPAA" course from Medical Billing Course.com and uses the knowledge gained as the Compliance Officer for the business.

A couple of months after opening their doors for business, Norma and Lara signed their first practice consisting of occupational, physical and speech therapists. "We are happy to report that we are also close to signing another client and have two additional prospective clients lined up," says Lara.
