Why is the CMS 1500 Claim Form Being Changed? |
The CMS 1500 form was not made to
accommodate the NPI number. The National Uniform Claims Committee
began the revisions to the 1500 Claim Form in June 2004 by identifying how
to best accommodate the NPI with minimal changes to the current
form. Two public comment periods were held to solicit feedback on the
proposed changes to the form. All of the revisions made to the form
were either NPI-related or a significant need for the change was identified.

9 Doctors Indicted for Billing Fraud |
Santa Ana federal grand jury indicted nine doctors
and nine others Wednesday on charges of performing unnecessary treatments on
mentally ill and elderly adults, and for fraudulently billing Medicare for
more than $12 million.
According to the indictment, from 2001 to 2004 the doctors
allegedly paid recruiters to find patients for respiratory
therapy, regardless of their need for treatment. The
recruiters would target boarding facilities for the elderly and physically
or mentally disabled, including Royal Healthcare, a 66-bed facility in
Anaheim.
