Dear Subscriber,

It's a New Year! Are you dedicated to growing your business and making an incredible income in 2006? Are you procrastinating out of fear? Here's a suggestion: Feel the fear and do it anyway! That is the advice I was given in 1990 when I was considering beginning a Medical Billing Business. I took it and I'm glad I did!

  • Career Institutes: Approach with Caution

Many of our students have come to us after either attempting to take or completing a "medical billing course" through a handful of highly advertised "career institutes" (education clearinghouses as we call them). We also receive several emails per week with complaints about these companies. The student is often confused and frustrated.

Without mentioning any names, some of these are the companies that you see advertised on TV, boasting certificate programs in anything and everything, i.e. plumbing, real-estate, paralegal, medical billing, etc. Their ads seem very credible and their websites are among the best.

We would like to remind you to proceed with caution with regard to these types of "educational resources."

Mid December 2005, the U. S. Department of Education opened its case against HCI (Harrison Career Institute) which is charged by the government with cheating students and committing financial student aid fraud.

Atiya Conover, who attended class in South Orange, said her school provided no computers for students who were learning how to process medical billing.

    Home Office From Hell Contest

You still have time to enter the Home Office from Hell Contest! Win a full year of rent and escape to a "real office."

Anyone who's ever had to deal with a bratty child, fend off overly-persistent telemarketers and fix a toaster -- all while negotiating an important business deal -- knows that working at home isn't all that it's cracked up to be. A poorly designed work space, intrusive phone calls, family obligations and the temptation to procrastinate can make it nearly impossible to get anything done. How many times have you thought (or even screamed): "I've got to get myself a real office!" (entry expires 2/28/06)

I received my certificate from Medical Billing Course.com October 2005 and eagerly began setting up shop! Early December 2005 I began working with a local physician who wanted me to "clean up his accounts receivable." His billing clerk quit her position just before Christmas and I'm thrilled to tell you that this lead to my first client contract! I am now handling all of the practice billing.

What led me to starting my own medical billing company? Downsizing! I was employed for 7 years with a major insurance company, processing medical claims. I naively believed my position was secure and I couldn't believe it when I was told that my services were "no longer required!" That was a shocker!

My first day at home, without a job, I was lost, afraid and confused but I was determined to begin something on my own and never allow myself to be placed in such a vulnerable position ever again! I didn't know much about the "billing" end of medical claims but I had heard of a couple of co- workers who left the insurance company I worked for and were doing well in medical billing.

Researching the internet brought me to Medical Billing Course.com. I called the list of references provided to me and when I felt comfortable, I purchased the course and dug right in! The course is fabulous and the staff extremely helpful! I'm building security for myself and I couldn't be happier.

I am engaged to be married to an outstanding man this summer. When I'm not working you can find me engrossed in photography and painting.

Good luck to my fellow Medical Billing Course.com graduates! I hope your 2006 is as great as I expect mine will be!
