Naming Your Website
Typically, but not always, website domain names
(the portion directly following http://www. in the URL
address) is also the name of your business.
Ideally,
the name of your business also explains what
you
do. If you are providing "medical claims
processing
services" and the name of your business is "ABC
Consulting"... ofcourse, unless you are widely
advertised and branded through radio, television and
print under your business name, it is much more
beneficial to register and name your domain
according to the services you provide. So, let's
take
a look at http
://www.medicalclaimsprocessing.com to
see if someone already owns it.
I would have been quite surprised if this domain
wasn't already taken. You will notice it is for sale
but most likely for a very hefty price. What
about
www.
medicalclaimsprocessing.net? Yes, although
this site was apparently put up to be
monetized by
Google Adsense for content (we'll cover this
in detail
on the new website - you can make good money
doing this), and is quite ugly, it is taken.
So what now? Well, if you are committed to
naming
your website according to what you do, you can try
Nameboy. I have used this service for several of my
websites and have come away feeling good about
the name it produced for me.
Nameboy is actually pretty awesome. You
can type
in words relating to what you do (medical claims
processing) and Nameboy will hunt down similar
words and phrases and allow you to check and
see if
a domain has already been registered using that
name! Try it out, play around with it.
Try it out...

Dear
Subscriber,
Many of our subscribers have asked us about the
process of domain registration and setting up a
website. Because this is a common query, we
are in
the process of publishing a website with detailed
specifics regarding domain registration and owning
your own website. In the meantime we are
going to provide you with the basics of website and
domain registration in this newsletter edition.

Registering Your Domain Name
|
|
Let's now assume that you have selected a
domain
name that no one else has. The next step is
registering your domain name. Registering your
domain name is very inexpensive and can be done
through who you choose to host your website.
BUT -
who you choose to host your website is a crucial
decision to make! Why? Because it doesn't
matter
how great your domain name is or how wonderful
your website is if it is always down or you are
unable
to get good support from your domain hosting service!
What does it mean to register a domain name?
When
you register a domain name it is assigned/licensed to
you and associated with a (DNS) computer on the
internet that you designate during the effective
period of registration. The domain registration
process only takes a few minutes to complete.

Choosing a Domain Host
|
|
A domain or website hosting service provides you
with a public server in which to place your website
so that it can be accessed via the internet by typing
the URL address
(http://www.thenameofyoursite.com) of your
website. Cost can vary greatly between web hosting
providers but don't choose a website hosting
service
based upon cost alone!
Our new website will go into detail about website
hosting providers but if you are shopping around
now, we can highly recommend
LexiConn! We have been using them for 8 years
now. They host 6 of our websites and
provide
phenomenal service and support at very reasonable
rates.

What's Next?
|
|
Once you have chosen a name for your domain,
registered your domain and have chosen a website
hosting service - the next step is the writing or
authoring of your website.
You don't know how to "write" a website?
That's
really not a problem. There are several options
available to you (web authoring software
applications, ready-made website providers, web
design companies). We will also explain these
in
detail on our upcoming website!
